Day one of TwitchCon San Diego 2019 is in the books, and what a day it was.
There’s never a shortage of awesome events, booths, meetups, and merch to check out when the convention first opens at 9:00 AM PT.
This year was no different.
If you weren’t able to make it out to San Diego for TwitchCon this year, we wanted to keep you all in the loop about the awesome stuff going on with daily recaps of the events!
Twitch Rivals: Fortnite Competition
The Twitch Rivals: Fortnite competition kicked off the weekend of competitive events with some incredible matches pitting professionals, streamers, and even convention attendees against one another in the Arena Trios format.
All of them were competing for their shot at $1.3 million in prizes. The audience was packed full of fans, and at times the presence of the crowd could truly be felt.
The final moments of the first game left almost everyone in awe.
As the games progressed, and more and more teams were eliminated from the three waves of qualifiers, the intensity of each game grew.
We saw some solid gameplay from a few familiar faces in FaZe Clan players and Fortnite World Cup 2019 Qualifiers FaZe Dubs and FaZe Megga who were joined by Evade’s AJO1x. They led the way through Wave 2 at the top of the elimination leaderboard with 24 kills.
Such a solid performance landed the trio into the finals to compete against the best performing creators and pros alike. We’d like to think that we played a small part in getting them there…

After three hard-fought heats featuring some insane finishes, like that cheeky Dubs heal off or the dramatic finish of the last match, here are the final standings of the top 10 trios and their respective placements:
Big shoutout to FaZe Dubs, FaZe Megga, and E11 Agholor for their top 10 placements and on their earnings. We love to see the G FUEL family represent!

Opening Ceremony and Twitch Updates
Wow. Another year - another incredible opening ceremony. The Glitch Theater quickly reached maximum capacity, but fear not. The G FUEL team is here to make sure you didn’t miss any of the game-changing announcements.
This year Twitch has definitely focused on delivering sweeping changes to the Affiliate program, their ad system, and a number of quality of life changes for the user experience.
Many of you may have noticed that early Friday morning, Twitch unveiled some changes to the homepage and the layout of the site. The focus on these changes was primarily to provide a better landing page for users and highlight new creators.
We’re redesigning the channel page to better welcome new viewers & give streamers more ways to express themselves.

We shared an early preview today and next year, you’ll have the ability to create a channel trailer, publish stream schedules and more! pic.twitter.com/rmvThB0kxi
In addition to updating the layout of the homepage and the site, Twitch is making large improvements to the Creator Dashboard, iOS Mobile App, and ad viewership.
Attention streamers: your new Dashboard is on its way!

Get the tools you need, when you need them. Personalize your dashboard to match your workflow, and for new streamers, Assistant gives you tips to help you level up your stream.

Some of the most notable changes are the ability for mobile viewers to easily purchase bits, subscribe to creators, and more easily interact with the elements of your stream you work hard to show off.
The audience was also thrilled with the changes to the ad system: unaffiliated streamers no longer have pre-roll ads, and affiliates now have the ability to further monetize their content with ads of their own.
No more sending raids to a commercial with the addition of picture-in-picture ads and the ability to disable them entirely.
You can watch the entire Opening Ceremony stream on the Twitch channel here:
After such an awesome first day at TwitchCon, it’s hard to imagine how the weekend can get better. But we’re excited to be able to get up and do it all again.
Be sure to stay tuned in to our Twitter, Instagram, and Twitch for all the latest and greatest updates from our booth. And keep an eye on the G FUEL blog for daily recaps!
