Top 6 Players To Watch At ESL One New York 2019

This weekend will be huge for Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) fans worldwide. This Saturday, September 28th through Sunday, September 29th, eight teams will fight for a trophy and $200,000 at ESL One New York in Brooklyn.

Whether you’re just stepping into this world, or if one of your favorite teams didn’t make it to the top eight, we have just the thing for you: a list of some of the top players that you should watch at ESL One New York.

This list is in no particular order.

Check it out:

6. Jani "Aerial" Jussila on ENCE

Jani "Aerial" Jussila on ENCE was named the MVP at BLAST Pro Series Madrid 2019.

Two of the biggest accomplishments on Aerial’s career so far was his transfer from SuperJymy (SJ Gaming) to ENCE. It was the biggest transfer in the Finnish esports history to date, and while it was an undisclosed fee, we know deep down that it was a good deal.

He was also named the MVP at BLAST Pro Series Madrid this year. So, he’s definitely a player that will be putting his heart and soul into his playing.

  • Role - Rifler (entry fragger)
  • Rating - 1.17
  • Total Kills - 10077
  • Head Shot % - 41.0%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.12
  • Damage Per Round - 80.6

5. Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken on Team Liquid

Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken on Team Liquid is gaming on a DXRacer chair.HLTV.org

While Twistzz might have the best hair in the CS:GO league, he is also a deadly competitor. This Canadian is actually younger than the first release of the game but was still named MVP at last year’s ESL One NY and IEM Sydney 2019.

Twistzz is a killer with the AK-47 and will pose deadly to anyone that underestimates him. He’s also one of those players that remains cool under pressure. Many of his best rounds are when he is the only one left alive on his team and he’s against multiple opponents.

  • Role - Rifler
  • Rating - 1.14
  • Total Kills - 17547
  • Headshot % - 60.9%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.21
  • Damage Per Round - 78.5

4. Keith "NAF" Markovic on Team Liquid

Alongside Twistzz comes his teammate NAF who rarely shows emotions on camera. But when you’re the MVP in four different major competitions, including the BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles 2019 and SuperNova Malta 2018, you really don't need to.

NAF, like his teammates, can be incredibly humble while also knowing he’s a top player. His emotionless play lets him see players for who they are as players, and not as people, which makes it more like going up against a T-1000. This is not an insult by the way.

  • Role - Rifler (lurker)/AWPer
  • Rating - 1.09
  • Total Kills - 21227
  • Headshot % - 41.7%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.15
  • Damage Per Round - 82.1

3. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač on FaZe Clan

Nikola "NiKo" Kovac on FaZe Clan
Respawn Ninja

NiKo became very popular within the CS:GO community after his impressive performances for mousesports, especially during ESEA Season 18 when he showed off his incredible aim and game sense. He’s one of the younger players, but he handles the game better than most. He currently plays the role of an in-game-leader, Rifler, AWPer, and lurker for FaZe Clan. He was MVP of ESL NY in 2017 and the BLAST Pro Series Miami in 2019.

In October 2018, FaZe came first place in the EPICENTER 2018 event in Moscow, Russia, which gained NiKo his seventh first place victory. He’s widely regarded as one of the best players in the game right now by fans, teammates, and opponents. Definitely keep an eye on him.

  • Role - Rifler (lurker)/AWPer
  • Rating - 1.17
  • Total Kills - 23313
  • Headshot % - 50.4%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.20
  • Damage Per Round - 85.8

2. Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz on Astralis

Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz on Astralis

As another one on the list who’s hailed as one of the best players of all time, he’s been consistently playing at a high level since 2014. dev1ce currently plays for Astralis as their main AWPer and this man is deadly at his job.

He’s been named the MVP in 10 major competitions including BLAST Pro Series São Paulo 2019  and StarLadder Berlin Major 2019. He was also ranked the second best player of 2018 by HLTV.org. So, dev1ce is going to bring his all during ESL One NY, and fans will be cheering his name without a doubt.

  • Role - AWPer
  • Rating - 1.17
  • Total Kills - 27532
  • Headshot % - 35.1%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.26
  • Damage Per Round - 81.0

1. Kenny "kennyS" Schrub on G2 Esports

Last but not least, we have kennyS, who’s currently playing for G2 Esports. In February 2017, there was a player swap between EnVyUs and G2 Esports. While kennyS doesn’t have as many MVPs as dev1ce, he was still  named "eSports Player of the Year" at The Game Awards 2015.

Kenny has been playing Counter Strike since he was 6 years old when his brothers first introduced him to the game. Now, he has surpassed them, and many of his rivals. He took his hobby and made it his life, and now he’s one of the best AWPers the esport has ever seen. Be sure to watch his skills this weekend.

  • Role - AWPer
  • Rating - 1.15
  • Total Kills - 31392
  • Headshot % - 31.1%
  • K/D Ratio - 1.23
  • Damage Per Round - 75.9
