Here's Everything You Need To Know About Summit1G

Who is summit1g?

Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar is one of the most-followed and most-viewed streamers to ever go live on Twitch. After spending several years building a dual career as a streamer and professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player, summit1g stepped back from pro CS:GO competition in 2017 in order to prioritize his Twitch channel. In 2018, he became the most-followed streamer on Twitch, and in May 2020 he signed a multi-year contract with the platform. Nowadays, he still streams a fair amount of Counter-Strike, but has expanded his repertoire to include a variety of titles, including Grand Theft Auto V, Sea of Thieves, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

History and Career

Growing up in Southern California, summit1g’s first exposure to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive came when a local card shop made a few CS:GO setups available to customers. As his passion for the game grew, he got into the scene in part through the leader of an online clan known as “1st Generation”—the origin of the “1g” at the end of his gamertag. He was one of the first people to realize the power and potential of Twitch, joining the platform in November 2011 and beginning to stream regularly in 2013. Even back in the days of Twitch’s infancy, summit1g drew a considerable audience thanks to his entertaining personality and skillful gameplay.

In 2015, summit1g, already a popular streamer, decided to take his career to the next level by becoming a full-fledged CS:GO pro. He achieved solid early results alongside teams such as Torqued and Area 51 Gaming, propelling him to join Splyce in 2016. His brief time with Splyce was most notable for a hilarious play at DreamHack Austin 2016, where he nearly clutched a round against CLG before dying to his own Molotov. To this day, this highlight remains a classic summit1g moment.

In 2017, as his Twitch stream continued to grow in popularity, summit1g joined Mythic, a CS:GO team consisting of well-known streamers—and the last major team he joined before deciding to focus on streaming over competition.

Though he’s played with a few ad-hoc squads since then, summit1g’s decision to focus on streaming has proven to be a wise choice. In May 2020, he signed a multi-year contract with Twitch, cementing his position as one of the premier streamers on the platform. At the time of this article’s writing, he has over 24,000 subscribers, with well over 1 million hours watched every week. Whether he dips his toe back into competition or continues to build his following as a streamer, the future is bright for summit1g.

Computer, Streaming, and Gaming Setup

Like most high-level Twitch streamers, summit1g has a top-notch gaming and streaming setup. His gaming computer uses an Intel Core i9-9900K processor in conjunction with an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card and an ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E motherboard, all hooked up to an ASUS VG248QE monitor. He stays in touch with his viewers using a Logitech C922 webcam and an Audio-Technica ATH-ADG1X Open Air headset, and he keeps his inputs crisp with a FinalMouse Ultralight Sunset mouse and a Corsair K-70 RGB Rapidfire keyboard.
